Following more than a decade of agency experience, international recognition and an armful of awards, graphic designer and illustrator Brandt Botes has founded his own enterprise in Cape Town, South Africa. This is Studio Botes - a boutique design shop that specialises in corporate identities, packaging design and illustration.

Brandt wouldn’t want to be anything other than a graphic designer. He loves what he does and believes that his calling isn’t a nine-to-five job. He’s as happy illustrating as he is behind a Mac, and he never stops flexing his creative muscles. Whether it’s walking into a store and seeing a beautifully crafted piece of packaging which makes him decide to buy shoe polish he will never use, being forced to stop his car to photograph amazing hand-drawn folk typography he’s spotted, or keeping a flyer he’s been given that commits numerous artistic crimes, Brandt never stops thinking about design. He is passionate about what he does and brings that passion to each job and client. It’s a quality that’s been there from the very beginning.

After graduating with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Stellenbosch, Brandt worked at both Orange Juice Design and Lowe Bull in Cape Town before taking up his most recent position at the Jupiter Drawing Room, where he ultimately served as Head of Design until February 2011.

Brandt prides himself in creating communication that is conceptually driven, visually bold and impactful. He has a keen eye for detail and strives to create effective work that remains faithful to the brief while capturing the imagination. His work process involves entrenching himself in the client's business - understanding as much as possible about what they do as what they need - thereby solving the problem at hand while considering the bigger picture.

Brandt’s work is informed by his sense of humour and his love of South Africa, typography and travel. His partner in this venture and in life is his wife Katherine Botes.
